CAREERS
Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver's dedication to exceptional representation has yielded a collegial work environment where today's young lawyers can develop into tomorrow's leading litigators. Our Firm provides a high-energy, engaging environment that fosters collaboration in an informal atmosphere.
Associates
Associates are expected to be highly qualified, having graduated from a well-recognized law school at or toward the top of their class. Our Associates are exposed to a variety of practice areas and are encouraged to assume as much responsibility as makes them comfortable - whether that means arguing motions, taking depositions, trying cases or interacting with our clients, courts, and witnesses.
Associates enjoy competitive pay and employee benefits, with an annual minimum hourly billing expectation. Associates are generally considered for partnership after seven years of full-time practice with the firm.
Summer Associates
Our summer associate program is designed to provide law students an experience representative of life as a firm associate. Summer associates work closely with our attorneys in a variety of practice areas, including those that are of particular interest to the individual. Responsibilities typically include legal research, drafting research memoranda and pleadings, and attendance at depositions, hearings, trials, and client meetings. The firm also assigns a mentor to each Summer Associate to ensure they receive individual attention, feedback, instruction, and guidance throughout their clerkship. The summer program requires a six-week time commitment.
Our firm also plans a variety of social events to provide an opportunity for Summer Associates to interact with the attorneys in a more relaxed setting. Past summer activities have included Zephyrs' baseball games, live music in Lafayette Square, po-boys at Parkway Bakery (President Obama's first stop in New Orleans), a traditional Indian dinner, trivia contests at local New Orleans taverns, and French Quarter strolls to learn the history of the cocktail.
In the past, our firm's summer program has welcomed a diverse group of highly motivated law students with outstanding academic records from some of the nation's top law schools, including Harvard University, the University of Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt, Boalt Hall (Berkeley), Tulane University, LSU, and Loyola University. If you are interested in our summer program, and attend a law school that we do not visit, please send a cover letter, resume, and transcript to careers@barrassousdin.com.
Lateral Positions
The firm also welcomes applications from highly qualified candidates looking for a change. In making lateral hiring decisions, academic performance, previous work experience, and a prospect's ability to provide clients with the best possible work product are all considered. All applications from lateral candidates will be reviewed on a confidential basis.
