Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver, LLC.
Experience
Our lawyers
have decades of experience litigating complex civil cases throughout
the Gulf South Region. We have represented clients in virtually
every type of complex civil case. Our lawyers are at ease with
complex civil cases because they always have excelled. More than
seventy-five percent served as members of law reviews, most as
editors. Almost half clerked for federal judges, both at the appellate
and district levels.
We handle virtually every type of complex civil case and regularly provide legal services in the following litigation practice areas:
Recognition
Barrasso Usdin has received a #1 ranking for Commercial Litigation in Louisiana in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers. The firm has earned this distinction each year since opening in 2003. Chambers notes, “The firm's 20 lawyers all specialize in complex commercial litigation, forming a team noted for its combination of youthful vigor and the presence of some of Louisiana's top litigators.”
Chambers described the firm as a “commercial litigation boutique [specializing]
in complex commercial cases, representing Fortune 500 corporations,
insurance companies, and brokerage firms in disputes throughout
the Gulf South.” Chambers highlighted that unbiased peer firms and clients alike “acknowledged
that the team's senior partners can rely on the support of a
'terrific collection of young lawyers'” and that “its
attorneys have particular expertise in defending class actions
and undertaking securities arbitrations for brokerage firms.”
Our lawyers also have received a number of
professional awards. Our firm includes three partners recognized as
among the leading litigators in the State of Louisiana, five partners among The
Best Lawyers In America, a member of Lawdragon's “Leading Litigators in America,” a member of the American
Law Institute and the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the International Society of
Barristers, and a member of the Inaugural
Leadership Class for the Louisiana State Bar Association.
Our attorneys are also accomplished instructors and
teachers in the legal arena. We regularly teach courses
at Tulane
University Law School, National
Institute for Trial Advocacy, the Louisiana Association
of Defense Counsel Trial Academy, and American
Bar Association and Louisiana
State Bar Association programs.
Pro Bono and Community Activities
Consistent with the Rules for Professional Conduct, we believe
an attorney should provide at least fifty hours of pro bono
representation. Toward that goal, we encourage our lawyers
and staff to handle pro bono cases. They have responded and
handled a myriad of pro bono tasks ranging from chairing The
Pro Bono Project, working on the Justice For All Ball Committee,
representing individual pro bono clients in litigation, manning
the phones at The Pro Bono Project, representing indigent criminal
defendants, and serving on the Louisiana
Indigent Defense Assistance Board. One of our lawyers, Meredith Cunningham, explained why
she handles pro bono cases in
an interview for
The Pro Bono Project Newsletter (PDF file).
Our firm is also contributing to the ongoing revitalization of New Orleans and the city's rebirth. Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity helps victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their homes and lives, and our attorneys volunteer to serve as counsel for indigent defendants in Katrina related cases. In an effort to strengthen education in the new landscape, we are a sponsor of the New Orleans Science and Math Charter School, and we rebuilding the music culture of New Orleans through our involvement in the Tipitina's Foundation Fundraiser.
