Barrasso Usdin Contributes to the Revitalization of Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School
Every year since the founding of the firm, Barrasso Usdin has made substantial financial contributions to organizations dedicated to improving public education in New Orleans. One of those organizations is Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School.
This year, we partnered with Clark to create opportunities for the firm’s employees to participate in activities with the school’s students.
The activities are expected to include mentoring, attendance at career days, guest lectures, assisting the debate team, and advising student’s about college interviews and applications. Like many of the city’s public schools, Clark was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. Several years ago, as conditions continued to deteriorate and as student performance continued to decline, state and local authorities decided to close the school.
Before the final vote, however, concerned alumni and parents asked FirstLine Schools to intervene and to help them revive the school. The authorities approved the plan. The problems were severe. Perhaps the most daunting was also the most unexpected: A substantial number of Clark’s students were homeless. Over the last few years, the new administration at Clark has reduced homelessness dramatically, has increased the graduation rate each year, and has improved school test scores significantly. We’re glad to be able to contribute to this worthwhile cause. To kick off our partnership with Clark, the firm sponsored a “work day” at the high school on Friday, August 2, 2013, to help get the building ready for the new school year.
Barrasso Usdin employees sorted books, painted class rooms, cleaned floors, and hung banners throughout the school. The day was a huge success, and the firm’s employees had a great time contributing to the revitalization of Joseph S. Clark Preparatory High School.
