Barrasso and Kupperman Serve as Panelists for the NOBA Bench Bar Conference

Partners Judy Barrasso and Stephen H. Kupperman recently presented at the New Orleans Bar Association’s Bench Bar Conference at the Beau Rivage Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi. The event, held from April 4th – 6th, covered a number of recent developments, including Lessons Learned from BP, Summary Judgment: Current Trends and Recent Developments, Class Actions & Complex Litigation, and Ethics & Professionalism, and there was also a Meet the Judges Q&A session.

As a panelist for the Summary Judgment session, Stephen H. Kupperman discussed revisions to the summary judgment provisions and procedures, and the practical considerations of those changes for attorneys. Stephen and the rest of the panel also discussed the reasons for the legislative changes in the procedure and likely future legislative efforts to effect additional changes. Judy Barrasso was a panelist for the Class Actions & Complex Litigation session. The panel discussed the status of class actions in federal court, removal procedures to get in to federal court, the availability or lack of availability of settlement classes in federal court along with the potential pitfalls, procedures for settlement, and the future of class actions.
